about

Scottish singer-songwriter Astrid Williamson shares Coming Up For Air, taken from her ninth album Into The Mountain (following 18th February) and announces a UK headline tour and UK/European dates with Dead Can Dance.
As with all songs on the new long-player, Coming Up For Air was inspired by writings Williamson found in a folder intriguingly titled Into The Mountain, capturing moments from a yearlong tour she undertook with Dead Can Dance in 2012/13, and described by Williamson as “Part letters to a lover, or perhaps hoped for lover, part

travelogue from the life of a touring musician”.
Coming Up For Air takes the form of the former, a letter to a lover, but also explores the strange, unanchored life of a musician on the road. Williamson says of the song “It’s an imagined conversation, partly with the object of desire “do you love me?”, partly with myself “it’s me that’s all over the place”, where familiar and unrequited terrain is revisited. In the anchored movement of the touring life, resignation vying with wilful blindness, the question posed mid song “Where are you?” might as easily be an enquiry “Where am I?”
The song’s longing and sense of disorientation palpable in its stirring alt-folk soundscapes and Williamson’s ardent delivery.
Astrid Williamson will be touring Into The Mountain in early 2022 including an Album Launch Show at London’s Green Note on 1 March, she will also support Dead Can Dance on their forthcoming UK/European tour.

lyrics

Coming Up For Air

September rolled by
October bristles on
I come up for air from under a blanket
Where are you?
I say out loud to no one, except you
You are in London, or *******
You are where you are, where you'll stay

I poured out a wine wondering as I drank it
Where are you?
I say out loud to no one, except you

It is me that’s all over the place.
Me that could never decide
Not about you, oh no
You are in London, or *******
You are where you are,
Where you'll stay no questions there

Only why, even think of you?
Even think of you
You, so good, you so sure
You, so unlikely to hurt anyone you love

Do you love me?
I wonder, if you ever even ask yourself?
